On August 9, 2016, Dr. Pir was presented with a formal Proclamation from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors honoring her twenty-seven years of “exemplary community service and continuing efforts to raise awareness and eliminate stigma associated with mental illness.” The Proclamation, which was signed by all of the Supervisors, was presented to Dr. Pir by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. The Proclamation also commended Dr. Pir on her nearly three decades of providing “leadership in innovative clinical training workforce development, accredited by the APA, graduate level teaching, international cross-cultural research, innovative program development, legal advocacy to stop recidivism, international speaking, human rights and social justice advocacy.”

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Pir stated that she shares the award with immigrant women of color who have faced the challenges of Freedom of Movement, as included in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights since 1948, as well as with those who have promoted resiliency in action and commitment to the wellness of our community by creating organizations such as the one she founded, IMCES.
